What is the OC Test?
Opportunity Classes (OC) in NSW are accelerated programs within regular public primary schools, designed for academically gifted students in Years 5 and 6. By bringing together high-achieving students, these classes provide a more challenging learning environment that goes beyond the standard curriculum.
Students must undertake the Opportunity Class Placement Test during Year 4 in order to qualify for entry into an OC class.
Competition Overview
In 2025, around 12,859 students sat the Opportunity Class Placement Test.
Only 1,840 places were available.
That means around 14% of students gained an offer.
With competition this strong, the right preparation makes all the difference.
Alpha One’s Opportunity Class (OC) Preparation courses provide a complete pathway to success — building core skills through our Foundations Course, extending knowledge with WEMT (OC Theory), and sharpening exam performance with the OC Trial Tests (OCTT).

Wondering how WEMT and OCTT differ, and why many families enrol in both? See our comparison below.
Both WEMT and OCTT play important but different roles in preparing your child for the OC Test.
Together, they provide a comprehensive pathway, combining skill-building and exam practice. Classes are kept in small-group classes with personalised tutor feedback. Most families choose both courses for the best preparation.

[OC Trial Test Class]
Our OC Trial Test Course for Year 3 & 4 students is designed to help students prepare for the OC Test through practice in simulated exam conditions on computers to train speed and accuracy.
In the same small group classes, students will take their Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, and Thinking Skills tests on a computer provided by Alpha One. Answers and exam techniques for success will be covered in the review session. Students will also receive a printed set of exam questions to take notes during the review session.
Tests are based on the most recent OC Tests and information supplied by the Department of Education.
Gain Actionable Insights with Our Performance Reports
After every mock exam, our detailed performance reports provide a deeper understanding of your child’s strengths and weaknesses, including the types of questions they answered incorrectly. The reports are provided fortnightly, ensuring you stay on track and can adjust the learning focus accordingly. Each report includes:
Rankings and Band Placements—indicating where your child stands among peers.
School Rankings—color-coded recommendations to help identify safe and attainable options for school placement.
Subject Breakdown—detailed scores and cohort averages, providing a granular view of each subject area, along with question-level analysis to pinpoint areas requiring further practice.
